Camshaft Roller Followers
(Valve Lifters)
Remove & Install Camshaft Roller
Followers 1209-010
Start By:
a.
remove valve cover
b.
remove rocker shaft assemblies and push rods
1.
Remove the side cover bolts and remove covers (1),
with camshaft roller follower assemblies (4).
2.
Remove bolts (3), shaft (2) and camshaft roller followers
(4) from the covers.
NOTE:
Unless replacement is required, be sure the
hollow side cover dowels remain in the side
covers.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the installation of the
camshaft roller followers.
3.
Install camshaft roller followers (4) on the shaft.
Position the shaft on the cover. Install bolts (3) and
torque to 13 ± 3 N m (115 ± 27 lb-in).
End By:
a.
install rocker shaft assemblies and push rods
b.
adjust the unit injector fuel timing and valve
clearance, refer to the Systems Operation, Testing
And Adjusting module.
c.
install valve cover
Cylinder Head Assembly
Remove & Install Cylinder
Head 1100-010
Start By:
a.
remove exhaust manifold
b.
remove fuel filter and crankcase breather
c.
remove valve cover and inlet manifold (valve cover
base)
d.
remove rocker shaft assemblies and push rods
e.
disconnect governor from fuel control linkage
f.
remove fuel control linkage
g.
remove unit injectors
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
"Tools And Shop Products Guide, NENG2500 for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar
machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
