Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
"Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar
machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
NOTE: In the following procedure, the governor and fuel
transfer pump are shown removed from the
engine only for photographic purposes. This
procedure may be done with the governor on the
engine.
There is spring force behind cover (1). When bolts (2) that
hold the cover in position are removed, the spring force
will be released. To prevent possible personal injury, hold
cover (1) in position as bolts (2) are slowly being removed.

While holding cover (1) in position, slowly remove bolts
(2) to release the spring force behind the cover.
Remove cover (1).

Remove fitting (3) and the check valve from cover (1).
