Turn the engine in the direction of normal rotation, and
place the No. 1 piston at top center (TC) of the
compression stroke. Install the timing bolt in the
flywheel housing.
4.
Align the timing marks on balancer gears (3) with oil
holes (4) in the engine oil pump body. With the
balancer gears properly timed, position the engine
balancer group in the cylinder block, and install the six
washers and bolts (2) that hold it.
5.
Check the condition of the O-ring seals in discharge oil
tube assembly (1). If the seals are damaged, use new
parts for replacement. Install oil tube assembly (1).
6.
Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel housing.

Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
"Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar
machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
Typical Example
1.
Remove bolts (1) and the washers that hold the engine
oil pump in position. Remove the engine oil pump.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the installation of the
engine oil pump.
2.
Be sure the mounting surfaces for the engine oil pump
are thoroughly clean.
3.
Install the engine oil pump in the reverse order of
removal.
