Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
'"Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar
machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
Typical Example
1.
Remove bolts (1) and the washers that hold the valve
cover to the inlet manifold. Remove the valve cover and
gasket.
2.
Remove the gasket from the valve cover. Use
8T-9011 Component Cleaner to dean the valve cover.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the installation of the
valve cover and gasket.
NOTE:
For later valve cover gaskets which have a rubber
bead on one side, no adhesive is required. The
gasket is designed to be installed dry.
3.
Be sure the mating surface of the valve cover and the
inlet manifold is thoroughly clean.
NOTE:
For earlier cork type gaskets apply 8T-9021
Depend No-Mix Adhesive to the mating surface of
the valve cover between each mounting bolt hole.
Position a cork type valve cover gasket in the
valve cover.
