NOTE:
Some applications contain an excluder (dust seal)
which must be removed prior to seal removal.
3.
Carefully drill three 4.1 mm (.161 inch) diameter holes,
that are evenly spaced, in the crankshaft front seal.
Alternating between the drilled holes, use Tool (A) to
evenly remove crankshaft front seal (1) from the
crankshaft. Do not damage the flange of the crankshaft
during seal removal.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the installation of the
crankshaft vibration damper, crankshaft pulley
and crankshaft front seal.
4.
Be sure the flange of the crankshaft is thoroughly clean
prior to installing the crankshaft front seal, excluder (if
applicable) and the crankshaft pulley.
5.
With the shipping sleeve in position, install the
crankshaft front seal using Tool (B).
NOTE:
The distance between the front face of the
crankshaft front seal and the front face of the
front housing must be 2.5 ± 0.5 mm (.10 ± .02 inch)
after seal installation. See the topic "Crankshaft
Seals" in the Specifications module for further
details.
6.
Remove the shipping sleeve from the crankshaft front
seal. Be sure that the seal surface of the crankshaft
pulley is thoroughly clean and dry and in good condition
before installation. The seal is designed to be installed
dry.
7.
Install excluder (dust seal) (7), if necessary.
8.
Put crankshaft pulley (5) in position on the crankshaft,
and install the washer and four bolts (4) that hold it.
9.
Install water pump drive V-belt (1).
10.
Install damper (3) and eight bolts (2) that hold it, if
equipped.
NOTE:
Be sure to check the alignment marks for proper
alignment on rubber type dampers. The damper
should be replaced if it is out of alignment.
11.
Adjust the tension of water pump drive V-belt (1). Refer
to the "Belt Tension Chart" in the Specifications module.
