Correct installation of O-ring seal (3). Do not install
O-ring seal in location 4.
NOTE:
For "wet" flywheel housings with crankshaft rear
seal
carriers,
insure
that
the
8C-3091
O-ring for the carrier to the housing is installed as
shown. Improper installation will result in leakage
of torque converter oil between the flywheel
housing and the block.

Check the flywheel housing runout. See the topic
"Flywheel And Flywheel Housing" in the Systems
Operation, Testing & Adjusting module.

Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and
repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to
Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and
supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar
machines. Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
1.
Remove engine oil pan mounting bolts (2) and carefully
lower the engine oil pan away from the cylinder block.
2.
Remove eight bolts (1) and the washers that hold the
crankshaft rear seal carrier to the cylinder block. Using
a screwdriver, carefully pry the crankshaft rear seal
carrier off of the two dowels in the cylinder block.
NOTE:
The following steps are for the installation of the
crankshaft rear seal carrier.
