Install the gasket and front housing (2). Cut the gasket
to the correct length, if necessary.

Install eight bolts (3) that hold the engine oil pan to the
bottom of the front housing.

Install all bolts (1) that fasten the front housing to the
cylinder block and to the oil pan. Tighten the M8 bolts
to a torque of 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). Tighten the M10 bolts
to a torque of 44 Nm (33 lb-ft).
NOTE:
Ensure that the bottom of the front housing is
aligned with the bottom of the cylinder block.

Install the camshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and
Assembly, "Camshaft Gear - Remove and Install.

Install the front gear group. Refer to Disassembly and
Assembly, "Gear Group (Front) - Install".

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened
component life.
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained
during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing,
adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect
the fluid with suitable containers before opening any
compartment or disassembling any component containing
fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools
and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable
to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
NOTE:
The engines are equipped with either an
aluminum valve cover or with a composite valve
cover. The aluminum valve cover has a seal that
fits between the valve cover and the inlet
manifold. The composite valve cover has a seal
that is permanently fixed to the side of the valve
cover.
