Possible remedy
Magneto breaker points pitted or not adjusted.
Remove, inspect, clean, replace, and adjust (par. 116).
Condenser open or shorted.
Replace the condenser (par. 116h).
Ignition cable ground.
Locate ground, tape the cable for temporary operation,
or replace cable (par. 118).
Fuel tank valve dosed.
Open the fuel tank valve.
Compression poor.
Overhaul valves and rings (para. 186, 178). See note in
paragraph 55.
Adjust valve timing (par. 182e). See note In paragraph
Valve timing Improper.

Air leak in the intake manifold.
Replace manifold gasket or manifold (par. 182).
Fuel line frozen.
Remove and clean fuel line (par. 104). Check and clean
the fuel tank (par. 109). Cheek source of supply for
purity.
Ice In carburetor.
Disassemble and clean the carburetor (par. 187). See
note in paragraph 65. Check the fuel tank for water.
Drain and clean the fuel tank if necessary. Check
the source of fuel supply for purity.

Choke adjusted improperly.
Lack of fuel.
Fill the fuel tank.
Fuel lines clogged.
Inspect, clean, and replace fuel lines (par. 104).

Spark plugs dirty or damaged.
Remove, inspect, clean, or replace (par. 117).

Engine Misses or Operates Erratically

Ignition wires loose or shorted.
Tighten connections, check for worn or frayed insulation,
tape wires for temporary operation, or replace (par.
118).
Adjust carburetor (par. 106d).
Carburetor out of adjustment.
Fuel lines clogged.
Inspect, remove, clean, and replace (par. 104).
Foreign substance or water in the fuel system.
Clean fuel tank, fuel lines, and fuel filter (pars. 103,104).
To avoid water in system, keep tank filled. Check
source of fuel supply for purity.
Valves warped or burned.
Grind or replace (par. 186).
Timing wrong.
Adjust timing (par. 182e). See note in paragraph 55.
