ADJUSTMENT
1.
Valve lash is measured between top of valve stem and rocker arm lever. With engine hot or cold, correct
clearances are 0.008 in. (0.20 mm) for inlet valves and 0.018 in. (0.45 mm) for exhaust valves.
NOTE
No. 1 cylinder is at front of engine. To set valve lash for respective cylinders, perform the
following steps:
2.
No. 1 Cylinder: Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until inlet valve of No. 4 cylinder has just
opened and No. 4 exhaust valve has not completely closed. Check clearances of inlet and exhaust valve for
No. 1 cylinder and adjust as necessary.
3.
No. 3 Cylinder: Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until inlet valve of No. 2 cylinder has just
opened and No. 2 exhaust valve has not completely closed. Check clearances of inlet and exhaust valve for
No. 3 cylinder and adjust as necessary.
4.
No. 4 Cylinder: Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until inlet valve of No. 1 cylinder has just
opened and No. 1 exhaust valve has not completely closed. Check clearances of inlet and exhaust valve for
No. 4 cylinder and adjust as necessary.
5.
No. 2 Cylinder: Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until inlet valve of No. 3 cylinder has just
opened and No. 3 exhaust valve has not completely closed. Check clearances of inlet and exhaust valve for
No. 2 cylinder and adjust as necessary.
