The wheel drive gearbox takes power from the axle motor and
the power is sent to the axle. The wheel drive gearbox is
mounted between the axle motor and the axle. The wheel
drive gearbox provides a single stage of gear reduction
through the use of planetary gears.
Power from the axle motor is transferred from the output shaft
of the axle motor through input coupling (7). Input coupling (7)
is splined to sun gear (6). When the input coupling rotates,
sun gear (6) drives planetary gear (5). The planetary gear
rotates around the inside of the ring gear (4). The ring gear is
held stationary to the gearbox housing (1). The rotation of the
planetary gear (5) drives coupling (2) through shaft (3).
Coupling (3) transfers the power to the input shaft of the axle.
