NOTE:
You must drain the secondary fuel filter element
(1) before the removal or the replacement of either
filter element.
2.
Place a suitable container under the valves (2) and (4).
Open the valve (2) in order to drain the upper secondary
fuel filter element (1). Immediately open the drain valve
(4) after opening the drain valve (2). This sequence
prevents an air lock in the fuel system.
NOTE:
Every new fuel filter has rotation index marks that
are spaced at 90 degree increments. Use the
rotation index marks as a guide for tightening the
oil filter.
3.
Slightly loosen the upper secondary fuel filter element
(1) by 90 degrees. As the filter is loosened, additional
fuel may drain. Loosen the filter by another 90 degrees,
and continue loosening the filter in 90 degree
increments until no fuel drains from the drain valves.
4.
Close the drain valves (2) and (4).
5.
Remove the upper secondary fuel filter element (1).
Use care in order to avoid spilling fuel from the filter
element as you remove the element.
NOTE:
The upper secondary fuel filter element and the
lower secondary fuel filter element are different
part numbers. Refer to the Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Parts List".
6.
Install a new upper secondary filter element. In order to
prevent contamination of the fuel system, do not fill the
element with fuel before you install the filter element.
When the gasket contacts the filter base, turn the filter
by 270 degrees more. This will tighten the filter
sufficiently.
7.
Prime the fuel system. See the Operation and
Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime".
8.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
9.
Close the engine compartment.
