PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS AND SERVICES
Maintenance Forms and Records
E v e r y mission begins and ends with the paperwork. T h e r e i s n ' t m u c h o f i t , b u t
you have to keep it up. The forms and records you fill out have several uses.
They are a permanent record of the services, repairs, and modifications made
on your vehicle. They are reports to organizational maintenance and to your
commander. A n d they are a checklist for you when you want to know what is wrong
w i t h t h e v e h i c l e a f t e r i t s l a s t u s e , and whether those faults have been fixed.

P r e v e n t i v e Maintenance Checks and Services
1. D o your before (B) PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE just before you operate the vehicle.
Pay attention to the CAUTIONS and WARNINGS.
2: DURNING checks and services (D) of PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE will be performed
while the equipment and/or its component systems are in operation.
3 . D o your after (A) PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE right after operating the vehicle.
Pay attention to the CAUTIONS and WARNINGS.

Do your weekly (W) PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE weekly.
Do your monthly (M) PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE once a month.

6. If something doesn't work, troubleshoot it with the instructions in this manual
or notify your supervisor.
7 . Always do your PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE in the same order so it gets to be a
h a b i t . Once you've had some practice, you'll spot anything wrong in a hurry.
8 . I f a n y t h i n g l o o k s w r o n g a n d y o u c a n ' t f i x i t , w r i t e it on your DA Form 2404.
If you find something seriously wrong, report it to organizational maintenance
RIGHT NOW.
9 . When you do your PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, take along the tools you need to make
a l l t h e c h e c k s . Y o u always need a rag or two.
A - K e e p i t c l e a n : D i r t , g r e a s e , o i l , a n d debris only get in the way and may
c o v e r u p a s e r i o u s p r o b l e m , C l e a n as you work and as needed. Use dry cleaning
s o l v e n t ( S D - 2 ) o n a l l m e t a l s u r f a c e s . U s e soap and water when you clean rubber
or plastic material.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent, used to clean parts is potentially dan-
g e r o u s t o p e r s o n n e l a n d p r o p e r t y . D o not use near open flame or
excessive heat. Flash point of solvent is 100oF - 1 3 8 oF.
