(2)
Bad Voltage Drop.
(a) Multimeter "D" is used to measure voltage drop across a bad splice connection. The voltage reading at
resulting in high voltage drop. This would cause lamp to be dimly lit when switch is closed.

(b) Multimeter "E" is used to measure voltage drop across an open circuit, in this case an open switch.
This could also be used to demonstrate the reading in a circuit with a broken wire. The voltage reading
at multimeter "E" will be approximately 24 volts. This means that an open circuit or an open switch
has infinite resistance, causing all voltage to be lost.
